2009年，“电脑机器人”预测出一次强度不大的核战争。当然没有发生，不过可能是2012年。预言所具有的夸大其词效果是人所共知的，越多的人思考同一件事情，这个集体思考的对象越可能被具体化而具有实现性……或者被“电脑机器人”扫描到！这就是人们所说的“自动实现的预言”。
相反地，怀疑论者认为，很少经济预言家（包括“电脑机器人”）能预测出当今的金融危机，更没人预测到世界银行体系的多米诺效应所引发的信贷危机，以及股票市场，正如众所周知的那样，如此不堪一击。
等待厄运……
和“电脑机器人”一样，只要你发出搜索“2012世界末日”的指令，就可以得到很多令人震惊的结果！我们能从这些搜索结果中得到怎样的解读？这些关于世界末日的流言蜚语也许只预示着一个地球坚不可摧、世界永恒不灭的幻像的终结，一种对人类发展另类范式的憧憬，一声激进的呼吁和呐喊，就好像在说：“终结它吧，建立另一个世界。”
斯坦福大学让.皮埃尔.杜比伊教授（Jean Pierre Dupuy）在其论文《为了一个被阐明的灾难论》（带着一个挑衅性副题“当肯定不可能之时”）的最后写到：“被阐明的灾难论在于思考一个对自我毁灭作出否定结论的人类经验的延续，这个自我的毁灭好像一个已经被铭刻于未来的人类凝固不变的命运。带着希望，正如博尔赫斯写到的那样，这个未来，尽管不可避免，也还没有发生。”
在我们的太阳只是开始慢慢变成火球，也就是说，在十亿年后，生命消失于上升的气温和强烈的紫外线照射下，我们或许还来得及在消亡殆尽之前……变得审慎和理性。
