“传家宝”公布之日，也正是米歇尔.海登将军（Michael Hayden）为中情局新的工作方式欢欣鼓舞之时：“自“9.11”起，我们所保持的，和我们必须继续保持的行动节奏，在我们机构的历史上都是无可比拟的。这对于历史学家是个好消息，我们又为他们的分析制造出新的素材。当然，我们不能对美国民众道出我们为保护他们所做的所有努力，因为只有这样才能不破坏我们保护他们的能力。”
一个不知恐惧为何物的中情局，其不受指责的机会微乎其微。《纽约时报》引用曾撰写过多部情报方面书籍的记者詹姆斯.邦福特（James Bamford）的话：“和今天正在发生的一切相比，‘传家宝’显得太假正经了。”
就像在给他的话提供证明：三个月后的2007年9月24日，一架载着六吨可卡因和海洛因的私人飞机，在哥伦比亚大托拉斯中转站——尤卡坦半岛的坎昆附近坠毁。这架飞机（格鲁曼生产）之前曾多次出现在欧盟委员会于2003—2005年间制定的飞行名单上，其任务是帮助中情局将罪犯运送到美国位于古巴的关塔纳摩监狱。这两者之间的联系使得观察家们回想起上世纪80年代中情局牵涉其中的大型毒品走私行动，同时演出警察和小偷两个角色才能更好地按照自己的策略操纵一切。当年的事件曾在古巴和美国毒枭间引发大战，持续了几个小时的杀戮结束后，古巴黑手党马克西米里亚诺.瑞.莫塔在他控制的旅馆区，也是杀戮的发生地表示：“结束的时候，也是重新开始的时候。”
中情局的新阵地
在中情局看来，如果敌人改变了面容或者特征，那么情报生意虽然也要改头换面，但却不会因此消失。新局长里昂.帕内塔（Leon Panetta）根据问题的重要性和是否对美国形成即时威胁的顺序列出了一个名单。如此看来，似乎还有很多脏东西（等着擦干净）：
——基地组织网络；
——墨西哥毒品走私网络；
——伊朗大规模杀伤性武器；
——欧洲和美国间关于反恐战争的分歧；
——委内瑞拉和伊朗等产油国降低原油价格所引发的不稳定；
——巴基斯坦及其主要内部问题；
——阿富汗和追捕本.拉登；
——朝鲜及其核武器的发展；
——面对中国可能发生的经济危机的反应；
——中东问题。
还差什么才能补全那个躺在中情局地下室的美丽骷髅，以便在遥远未来的某一天，由帕内塔先生的继承人向我们展出？
